In "joy of a mother," the familiar image of the loving, domestically oriented woman is both evoked and subtly deconstructed. The figure’s hollow body reveals a painted living space, while two removable cats take the place of children. By inviting viewers to playfully rearrange the sculpture, it gently questions ingrained notions of female happiness.
PRODUCTION: From clay to art.
Crafted by hand with great care, the 3-piece sculpture was formed from light clay, painted with underglaze, fired, glazed, and finally fired again as stoneware. Small irregularities in shape and glaze are a testament to the loving handiwork and are characteristic of my artistic style. Perfectly imperfect!
