“joy of a father” reflects the societal perception of fatherhood as something less strongly tied to the domestic sphere than motherhood. The sculpture consists of three movable parts: the father’s body, containing a painted landscape as well as a small car and a racing bike. Its playful character is reminiscent of children’s toys while simultaneously referencing notions of male freedom in adulthood.

PRODUCTION: From clay to art.
Crafted by hand with great care, the 3-piece sculpture was formed from light clay, painted with underglaze, fired, glazed, and finally fired again as stoneware. Small irregularities in shape and glaze are evidence of the loving handiwork and reflect my artistic style. Perfectly imperfect!
